Many high schools and colleges offer music theory courses, but teach it from a classical standpoint, forcing you to learn concepts and terminology that is completely outdated and won't apply to modern music. I offer a course that applies to blues, jazz, pop, rock, folk, country, and funk, not to classical masters like Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. Not only will you learn concepts about harmony and melody, you will learn how to hear them as well. Every class will include ear training to teach your ear to listen in a new light. Materials required: Berklee Music Theory Book 1, Berklee Music Theory Book 2, (will be purchased for you and given at the first class)
Price (including materials) - $225
"Patrick is a great musician and a wonderful teacher. I had taken song writing and music theory lessons from him in spring '11. The lessons were really helpful and he always made them more interesting by citing plenty of examples. And, for the prices such invaluable lessons (+ study materials) offered, it was a lot more than one could ask for.
Also, it was a great experience recording my first sounds-like-professional song with Patrick as part of the song writing class and I am looking forward to record more often in his studio.
All in all, if you are serious about taking your music skills to the next level, I'd strongly recommend Patrick's guidance."

"A willing and wanting guitar student, whether raw beginner or 30 year stagnant veteran like me, must find a teacher that possesses a genuine, unconditional grasp of music, and most importantly, the skill to effectively communicate the lesson to ensure progress and continually meet the student's goals. Patrick is this teacher. Whether you are reaching for your first or the next level, Patrick provides you the opportunity to go beyond your expectations."
